About

A small studio for engineering firms.

Clevis is run by Leo Cooperband, a designer and Webflow developer who has built brands and websites for newsrooms, tech companies and science startups. Clevis brings that work to the engineering firms of the Colorado Front Range.

Why engineering firms

Engineering firms design the roads, the water systems and the ground under every building in the state. Clevis makes websites for those firms and no one else, with the same care they put into the work.

Before opening, we scored 35 Front Range firm websites, so every project starts from what the best ones already do.

Why “Clevis”

A clevis is the U-shaped bracket and pin that joins two parts and carries the load between them. A firm's website does the same job: it connects the work to the people who hire the firm and the engineers who might join it.

How we work

Four promises you can hold us to.

Start with a free teardown
  1. 01

A fixed scope and a fixed price

You know the cost before we start, and it only moves if the scope does.

  2. 02

    Useful before you hire us

The teardown is free, and its three fixes are yours whether or not we work together.

  3. 03

    Your words, approved

We interview your principals and write the copy. Nothing goes live until you've approved every word.

  4. 04

A site your team can run

Your marketing coordinator can add a project, a person or a job opening without calling us.

Questions about Clevis

Who do you work with?

Engineering firms on the Colorado Front Range: civil, structural, geotechnical, MEP, water and transportation, usually between 20 and 250 people.

Why only engineering firms?

Because the job is specific. Engineering firms win work on qualifications, answer to selection committees and compete for the same engineers. A site built for that looks different from one built to sell a product, and we'd rather be very good at one job.

Will we have to explain engineering to you?

Less than you'd think. We read your proposals and project sheets before we talk, then interview your principals and project managers to get the details right. You approve every word before it goes live.

Do we need to be a certain size?

Most firms we work with have 20 to 250 people: big enough to have a site worth fixing, small enough that a principal still makes the call. If you don't have a marketing lead, we work with a principal directly.

How is an engineering firm's website different?

Most public work is awarded on qualifications, so the website doesn't close the deal. It backs up your statement of qualifications when a reviewer or a referred client looks you up, and it recruits the engineers you need. We design for both jobs.

What do you do, and what don't you?

Websites first: strategy, copy, design and build, then a care plan that keeps the site current. Brand refreshes and project drawings when the firm needs them. We don't run ads, sell leads or write proposals.

Send us your website.

We'll look at it the way a selection committee and a job candidate would, and send back three specific fixes within a week. No pitch attached.
